Minnesota & Wisconsin

Continuation from < Page 1 < !

In Minneapolis we stayed at the Lebanon Hills Campground in Apple Valley. It is the best campground we have found in a city so far. It is close to the flight path of the airport, but the planes didn't disturb us too much because they weren't flying between 11.00pm and 6.00am. The campsites are nicely spaced to give privacy and there are lots of trees and forest in the area without the campsites being completely shaded. The bathrooms were in excellent condition - partly because they are fairly new, but also because they were regularly cleaned, and cleaned very well. The campground managers are doing an excellent job here. We ended up staying 3 nights.
One of the reasons for stopping in Minneapolis was to search out a new camera. We had dropped ours when we were in Yellowstone and some of the functions stopped working. We have still been able to take photos with it, but we had been talking about a replacement even before this happened. It is 5 years old and, in this digital camera age, that is positively ancient! We decided to stay with the Nikon and bought the newly released Coolpix S10 with a 10x optical zoom - from now on we should get better close-ups of wildlife...
We also caught up on some other shopping, but were quite happy to leave on Saturday and get on our way to Toronto.
We drove through the very popular historic town of Stillwater into Wisconsin and spent the night in a rest area near a small town called Gilman. We followed the 64, as it appeared on the map to be a minor road, which would take us all the way across to Lake Michigan. The countryside didn't change much from Minnesota - lots of farms with big red barns in various stages of repair/disrepair - but there were more forests with more spectacular autumn colours, so quite a bit of oohing and aahing from me!!!

Everything past the Badlands in South Dakota was a driving trip to get us quickly from West to East; we didn't even visit downtown Minneapolis - hence we didn't stop very often to take photos...
